This place took over from the old Mexican restaurant that was there. Identical Interior layout, color scheme, tables etc. I think they just changed the name and opened the doors as a new restaurant. Came here for dinner. Home made Guacamole seemed rather expensive- $13 or $14? They do NOT have a liquor license so you can BYOB Had the burrito bowl and other person had a burrito. Food was ok- nothing to really rave above. The chips they served in the beginning were stale and the salsa was eh. Nothing unique or interesting on the menu. The atmosphere inside was very sterile. It was clean and tidy but there was no ambiance. Just blah- wasn’t made to feel welcome, staff was NOT engaging at all. Service was lacking too. Not much followup with the wait staff and at the end, no check was presented. Was instructed to go to the counter to pay. All in all, place misses the mark. Not very impressed and will NOT go back. There are other places in the area that are better. Also, on street parking is the only available parking. At least that was free.

We went here for lunch, and were immediately greeted and seated by our server, who was friendly and attentive. We were served chips and some excellent salsa while we waited. I actually filled up on the salsa and had to take a large part of my entree home with me, haha. My husband got the tacos al pastor and I got the tacos carnitas. Both dishes were excellent, and were made even better by the habanero hot sauce that the server suggested. We’ll definitely go here again next time we’re in the area.

Ordered the chicken burrito and my partner ordered the beef quesadillas. The chicken was cooked really well nice and soft. Nachos and Salsa were also provided at no charge. The burrito could have been a tad bit spicier, but it was still really good. Lots of seating and no complaints with the service. Prices are typical for Mexican food in the area.

We loved it here. We've tried almost every Mexican place in Hunterdon county and this one wins for price, portions and taste. The portions are generous, the food is tasty and it's very fairly priced. The chicken quesadilla was easily big enough for my 3 kids to share (they are 7 and under), especially when paired with a side of rice and beans. We will definitely be back. Service was super friendly and attentive.

El Charro is a great local hangout. The food is very good, especially the guacamole! And staff/service is wonderfully accomodating. The night we ordered, we did so requesting delivery. Within minutes of receiving our online order, the resturant called to confirm delivery is not currently available. Which was not a problem, as down the road. Due to the confusion, in addition to our order, they offered us a dessert of our choice, as well beverage. Will return when visiting the area again.

Welcome to the heart of Milford, New Jersey, where culinary tradition meets vibrant flavors at El Charro del Rio. Nestled at 56 Bridge Street, this establishment emerges as a fresh face in the local dining scene, having taken over the space of a former Mexican restaurant. While the interior may feel familiar, the offerings aim to capture the essence of authentic Mexican cuisine with a twist.

Upon entering, you'll notice a clean and tidy ambiance, albeit one that some might describe as lacking warmth. Despite its sterile appearance, the welcoming essence is evident once you interact with the attentive staff. For those who prefer to sip their favorite beverage with their meal, it’s worth noting that El Charro del Rio operates on a BYOB basis, allowing diners to bring their personal choices of drinks to complement their food experience.

As for the food, patrons have experienced a range of dishes that evoke both praise and constructive criticism. The burrito bowls and tacos al pastor have been highlights for many, praised for their generous portion sizes and flavorful presentations. One reviewer shared their delight with the tacos carnitas, which paired perfectly with a well-recommended habanero hot sauce, demonstrating that spice enthusiasts will find their passion here. Additionally, the hefty burrito manages to satiate even the heartiest of appetites, proving that El Charro del Rio doesn't just fill plates but also fills hearts.

However, not all experiences have been flawless. A few reviews point out areas needing improvement—like the consistency of the chips served or the need for more engaging service. While some diners enjoyed the chips and salsa, others found them a bit lacking in freshness. Nonetheless, the fact remains that many patrons have enjoyed their meals, with some raving about the generous portion sizes and affordability.

The standout feature of El Charro del Rio is undoubtedly its commitment to quality and value. Many have remarked on the satisfying portions, which make it a family-friendly spot. Whether you're sharing a chicken quesadilla with the kids or diving into a flavorful beef quesadilla, the menu seems to cater well to various tastes. Visitors have left feeling more than pleased, indicating a sense of fulfillment that echoes the restaurant's mission to deliver hearty Mexican fare without the hefty price tag.

In conclusion, while El Charro del Rio may still be carving out its identity in Milford's culinary landscape, it possesses the foundations to become a favorite among locals. With its commitment to flavor, friendly service, and generous portions, this eatery could make a lasting impression.
